Generations

Solo Exhibition By Esmond Loh

20 February - 9 March 2014

In this new body of black and white paintings, Esmond Loh explores universal and highly personal themes of existentialism. The subjects in the works are people close to the artist or the artist himself. In each painting, the individual is isolated in a timeless and infinite space, drawing attention to his significance in a seemingly inexplicable universe. From afar, the portraits appear to be highly detailed. Yet, the expressive and gestural brushwork creates the illusion of a highly detailed image. “Generations” expresses Loh’s inquiry into the reality of life and death, spirituality, as well as the presence of a divine being.
