Dress up

solo exhibition by dyn

27 July - 20 August 2017

Dress Up could be described as Safaruddin Bin Abdul Hamid aka Dyn’s homecoming solo exhibition with Chan + Hori Contemporary. Born in Singapore in 1977, Dyn has always been interested in engaging the physical aspect of iconic architectures in response to frequent refurbishment of old and new buildings seen in Singapore and keeping up with its ever-evolving physical landscape.

Traversing the globe to connect with international icons of modernity such as the Statue of Liberty from New York, USA and the Opera House in Sydney, Australia, this shift departs from his usual stripped down snapshots of nostalgic landmarks in Singapore such as the former Katong bakery in the distinctive red brick house on East Coast Road. Here, Dyn layers a pastiche of colours, creating camouflages that shifts our perspective and almost obliterate the icons.

Dyn obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of technology (RMIT) in Australia, and later his Master's Degree in Fine Arts from Open University at LASALLE - SIA College of the Arts. He first showcased his works in Chan Hampe Galleries in 2011 and held subsequent solo exhibitions with the gallery in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. In 2010, he exhibited at the Karin Weber Gallery in Hong Kong and was a recipient of the Winston Oh Travel Scholarship in 2002 and 2004, and The Della Butcher Award (Certificate of Merit) in 2003.
